London – Format distributor Zeal Entertainment, part of the Digital Rights Group (DRG) has sold The Singing Bee format to 26 territories worldwide since the show debuted July 2007 in the US on NBC to top ratings. Created by The Gurin Company and Juma Entertainment, The Singing Bee musical game show already sees 14 shows airing on Australia’s Nine Network, New Zealand’s TVNZ, Turkey’s Show TV, Spain’s Antena 3, Italy’s Rai, the Netherlands’ RTL4, Finland’s MTV3, Sweden’s TV3, Norway’s TV3, Denmark’s TV3, Hungary’s TV2, Greece’s Alpha TV, Colombia’s Caracol TV and Chile’s Canal 13. Recent deals will also see 12 more shows go into production in China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Israel, the Middle East, Belgium, France, Germany, Iceland, Russia, Ecuador and Ukraine. The Singing Bee combines the concept of the spelling bee with music by challenging contestants to ‘sing in the blanks’ of partial song lyrics. Contestants are chosen from a studio audience and will be asked to leave if they get their parts of the lyrics wrong.
