New York/Singapore/Hong Kong – AETN All Asia Networks Pte. Ltd. (AAAN) announced the launch of The History Channel HD (HISTORY HD) in Singapore and Hong Kong. The launch marks the debut of the HISTORY HD brand in the Asia-Pacific region. The channel will launch on September 1 in Singapore on StarHub Digital Cable and in Hong Kong on now TV in late September. HISTORY HD will broadcast 100 percent HD content, and will offer a separate schedule from the standard definition service. The channel will offer a selection of programmes in high definition, including Cities of the Underworld, The Universe, Ax Men, Dogfights, Ancient Discoveries, and Ice Road Truckers. “The launch of HISTORY HD in South East Asia is a true milestone for the HISTORY brand, as we extend our HD footprint into the Asia Pac for the first time,”said Alan Hodges, managing director, Asia-Pacific, AETN. “We look forward to expanding our HD channel bouquet throughout the region in the upcoming months.” Content management and delivery company GlobeCast and satellite operator MEASAT were chosen by parent company AETN to provide a range of broadcast services for the HD channel, including fibre delivery to Asia as well as encryption, uplink and capacity on the MEASAT-3 satellite platform. “The History Channel HD will be the third HD channel included in the bouquet of channels offered on MEASAT-3,”said Terry Bleakley, vice president, commercial operations, MEASAT. “The addition of this HD channel puts MEASAT at the forefront of HD distribution among Asian satellite operators.”
