BBC Worldwide announced a licensing deal with Nokia to provide premium video content on the Nokia N96 handset in Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia, in line with Nokia’s continued focus on offering mainstream branded downloadable content on its flagship mobile device. Episodes from three popular BBC programmes – Doctor Who, Walking with Dinosaurs, Tribe 2 and top scenes from the iconic Top Gear programme, can be viewed in the Nokia N96’s ‘My Videos’ folder under Nokia Video Centre. Already shipping globally, the Nokia N96 mobile devices in the four markets are sold with a voucher which contains a unique activation code. The code allows the customer to access and download rights-protected BBC content through a BBC branded page within Nokia’s website (www.nokia-asia.com/videos/bbc). The various clips and episodes are available to download only once however they will remain on the Nokia N96 for a month. “The deal with Nokia is the first time BBC Worldwide has done a licensing agreement of this kind in Asia. It offers us a great opportunity to showcase BBC content on a new platform and to introduce an audience on the move to some fantastic programmes,” commented Joyce Yeung, SVP and GM, sales & distribution Asia, BBC Worldwide. BBC Worldwide content will also be available on Nokia N96s shipping in Australia and New Zealand, following a similar deal between the two companies.
