Taipei – Taiwanese telco Chunghwa Telecom has reported 676,000 subscribers to its IPTV service ‘Multimedia-on-Demand’ (MOD) by the end of 2008, up 71.4 percent from one year previously. The telco had a total of 4.3mn broadband subscribers by the end of last year, up 1.4 percent from the end of 2007, with 1.07mn of the total being FTTx subscriptions. Chunghwa Telecom reports that in 2009, it’s key focus will be to retain market leadership for core services, while expanding its strategic digital-converged services such as broadband, IPTV and mobile value-added services. The company also plans to continue its use of next-generation networks as ‘a foundation for long-term growth’. Total revenue across all operations for 2008 reached TW$ 201.7bn (US$ 5.93bn), up 2.2 percent year-on-year, while internet and data revenue rose 1.7 percent by the same comparison. Total net income however fell 6.7 percent to reach TW$ 45bn.
