Australia – According to the government, more than half of all Australian households have completed the switch to digital television. In a statement, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Stephen Conroy, said 53 percent of households had converted to digital TV, reports PC World. This represents an increase of 6 percent over the previous quarter. Awareness of the switchover has also increased, with 93 percent of consumers aware of the existence and benefits of digital television compared to analogue. Eighty two percent of digital TV viewers are pleased with the additional channels and picture quality, said the minister. The government has named 31 December 2013 as the cut-off for analogue TV, which has been broadcasting in Australia since 16 September 1956.
