Muse Entertainment and The Walrus Announce First-Look Partnership for Documentary and Unscripted Adaptations

June 16, 2026 by TVA Editor

L-R: Jonas Prupas, Managing Director, Unscripted, Muse Entertainment; Carmine Starnino, Editor in Chief, The Walrus

Muse Entertainment, one of Canada’s leading independent studio businesses, and The Walrus, Canada’s award-winning journalism and ideas publication, today announced a first-look development partnership focused on adapting original reporting and longform journalism into premium documentary and unscripted programming.

Under the agreement, Muse Entertainment will receive exclusive early access to unpublished stories slated for future publication in The Walrus, along with a first right of negotiation to adapt select reporting into documentary and unscripted projects. The partnership spans a range of subject matter, including investigative journalism, social issues, culture, politics, science and business. Development discussions on several potential projects are already underway.

The partnership marks the latest step in Muse Entertainment’s continued expansion of its documentary and unscripted business. By securing early access to one of Canada’s most respected sources of original journalism, the producer is strengthening its pipeline of premium factual IP and creating new opportunities to develop timely, globally relevant stories for the screen.

“As we continue to expand Muse Entertainment’s unscripted business, we’re focused on building a pipeline of distinctive, high-quality stories with the potential to resonate globally. The Walrus has earned a reputation for exceptional journalism, and this partnership gives us a unique opportunity to identify compelling stories early and develop them for audiences across film and television,” said Jonas Prupas, Managing Director, Unscripted, Muse Entertainment.

“Muse has built a world-class reputation for turning great ideas into unforgettable programming,” said Carmine Starnino, Editor-in-Chief of The Walrus. “We’re thrilled to partner with them to expand the reach and impact of our journalism.”

Muse Entertainment is one of Canada’s leading independent content studios, developing, producing and financing premium scripted, unscripted and documentary programming for audiences around the world. The company has recently expanded its slate of premium documentaries and factual programming. Notable and upcoming projects include The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith (Amazon), For Heaven’s Sake (Paramount +), Canada Cup ’87 (Bell Media, TVO), Nose Deep (Bell Media, Sky UK, Abacus), Doula (CBC), Running Smoke (CBC), Lost Boy (NFB, CBC) and Stress Test (TVO).
