Talpa Studios’ quiz show Caught in the Middle expands further as Atresmedia orders Spanish version

April 15, 2026 by TVA Editor

Spanish broadcaster Atresmedia has ordered a local version of Talpa Studios’ quiz show Caught in the Middle, from the global content house founded by John de Mol, to be broadcast on Antena 3. The show will be produced by Fremantle Spain in partnership with Talpa Studios and recorded later this year at Talpa Studios’ international production hub in the Netherlands. The commission adds to Talpa Studios’ growing track record with Atresmedia, following earlier adaptations including The Jump and The Quiz with Balls.

Caught in the Middle is the number one new game show launched on SBS6 in the past six years, making an immediate impact with an average market share of 18.1% across its eight-episode run – well above the channel’s slot average of 12.9%. A second season has been confirmed in the Netherlands. The format previously secured a paper format sale to Australia in September 2025, ahead of its Dutch premiere, with the Australian version set to premiere later this year.

On the show, one duo stands at the center of a giant LED arena while 100 opponents close in. Over the course of 15 questions, they must outsmart the crowd by picking answers that match as many rivals as possible – knocking them out one by one before the opponents reach the middle and claim the €50,000 jackpot for themselves.

Sebastian van Barneveld, Director Global Distribution at Talpa Studios, “Following its strong performance and renewal in the Netherlands, it’s great to see Caught in the Middle continue its international expansion. The format combines a clear, easy-to-follow gameplay with a striking visual identity, brought to life in our international production hub. This makes it instantly engaging and highly adaptable for broadcasters looking for a scalable, high-impact game show.”

Carmen Ferreiro, Director of Entertainment Programming at Atresmedia, “For Atresmedia, a leading group in Spain, it remains a priority to continue investing in successful international formats in order to stay at the forefront of entertainment in our country. The most-watched game shows on Spanish television are on Atresmedia and, therefore, we are very pleased to have acquired Caught in the Middle, as it perfectly fits our type of entertainment, allowing viewers to play along from home at the same time.”
