ZDF have joined SkyShowtime’s Original THE TRIO (TRION) as co-production partners. Currently in production, the SkyShowtime Original series will land on ZDF and its affiliate channels in the DACH region, after a deal struck by Night Train Media. Worldwide sales outside of SkyShowtime and ZDF’s territories are handled by NTM’s Eccho Rights.
Herbert Kloiber, CEO Night Train Media and Eccho Rights said, “Since announcing THE TRIO (TRION), interest was immediate, with international partners captured by the unique story and demonstrably strong IP of Johanna Hedman’s novel. We’re delighted that ZDF has come on board as co-production partner and broadcaster – a fantastic endorsement of the series’ cross-border appeal.”
In September, SkyShowtime announced the start of production on the six-part series starring August Wittgenstein (The Crown) as ‘older’ Hugo and Felix Sandman (Sommartider) as August, alongside Seth Manteus (Cherries) and Rebecka Harper. Based on the captivating bestselling novel by Johanna Hedman, THE TRIO (TRION) is a story about love, sex and passion – a reflection of the meaning of life and the relentless passage of time.
Trion, Hedman’s debut novel, was first published in 2021, immediately making waves in international publishing circles. Its US publisher, Europa Editions, bought the rights to the English-language version of the book before the original was released, while it was the first Swedish book in three decades to be picked up by the esteemed UK publisher, Hamish Hamilton.
The series, directed by Anders Hazelius and written by Veronica Zacco, is currently in production, with more details and additional casting announcements to follow.
