All3Media International has announced Two Brothers Pictures’ “five-star knockout triumph” (The Times) The Assassin has been acquired by partners across five continents to premium partners including AMC, HBO, Warner Bros. Discovery, BBC Studios and NBCUniversal, who join co-production partner ZDF(Germany) and Stan (Australia).
Described as a “thrilling, suspenseful action series” (Mamamia), which is “stylish, witty, tightly written and massively entertaining” (The Guardian), the six part series premiered on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland earlier this year.
In North America, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service AMC+ will premiere the series in the US on 20th November, whilst Canada’s leading media and entertainment company Bell Media has licensed The Assassin for both SVOD platform Crave and CTV Drama Channel. Additionally, NBCUniversal LATAM has acquired pan territory rights for The Assassin for streaming platform Universal+.
Across EMEA, the six-part series has been licensed to PSB’s including DR (Denmark), SVT(Sweden) and VRT (Flemish Belgium) and NPO (The Netherlands). The Assassin has also landed with HBO Max (France), Mediaset (Spain and Italy) COSMOTE (Greece), HOT (Israel), Freedom Media (Kazakhstan), and Evision (Middle East).
The Assassin will be available on Sky Free in New Zealand where it will air on Three and ThreeNow. Further deals in the APAC region have seen BBC Studios license the series in a pan territory deal covering Asia and India for its premium SVOD drama channel, BBC First and its multi-genre SVOD service, BBC Player. The six-part series has also been licensed by WOWOW in Japan and Sohu in China .

Set against the idyllic backdrop of a remote Greek island, the images see retired assassin Julie (Keeley Hawes) and her estranged son Edward (Freddie Highmore) as they are forced to work together in a fight for survival. Amid questions around Edward’s paternity and Julie’s dangerous past catching up with her, the pair are forced to flee the island and go on the run together.
Alongside Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore, who each serve as Executive Producers, The Assassin also stars Gina Gershon (Riverdale, New Amsterdam), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist, Baby Reindeer), Jack Davenport (The Morning Show, Pirates of the Caribbean), Alan Dale (Dynasty, Lost), Gerald Kyd (The Swarm, The Split), Devon Terrell (Totally Completely Fine, Cursed), Richard Dormer (Blue Lights, Game of Thrones) and David Dencik (The Ipcress File, No Time To Die).
The Assassin is a Two Brothers Pictures (an All3Media company) production for Prime Video UK, in association with All3Media International, ZDF and Stan. The 6 x 1 hour drama has been written and created by Harry and Jack Williams (The Tourist, Boat Story, The Missing) with Krissie Ducker (Killing Eve, Sweetpea), Hamish Wright (Significant Other) – who serve as executive producers – and Selina Lim (Sex Education) also writing. Sarah Hammond (The Tourist, Boat Story), Daisy Mount (Wilderness, The Rig) and Alex Mercer (The Tourist, Inside Man) serve as executive producers for Two Brothers Pictures, and Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore also serving as executive producers. Nige Watson (One Day) is producer with Lisa Mulcahy (The Tourist) directing episodes 1-3 and Daniel Nettheim (The Tourist) directing episodes 4-6.
