yes Studios, in partnership with producers MONSTER Company, has announced that the 10-part Korean adaptation of its hit global scripted format Your Honor will launch this week. The first two episodes just dropped on the KT Genie TV platform, with the scheduled channel premiere on ENA.
Your Honor has proved one of the most successful scripted formats of recent years, with 10 localised versions either on air or in production with major broadcasters around the world. In addition to South Korea, these territories are the US, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Turkey, India, Croatia and Russia. yes Studios also has numerous other adaptations currently under negotiation, including another in Asia.
Produced by MONSTER Company (Han River Police for Disney+, Long Live the King) following a format deal with yes Studios, the Korean adaptation was written by Kim Jae-Hwan (Boyhood, Collectors) with Kim Yong-Gi (Han River Police, Long Live the King) as producer. The series’ award-winning directors are Pyo Min-Soo (Moon in the Day, The Third Charm) and Yoo Jong-Sun (Pale Moon, Designated Survivor: 60 Days).
Your Honor Korea has a high-profile cast that includes Son Hyun-Joo (Captivating the King, The Good Detective) in the lead role as the judge, Kim Myung-Min (Law School, Miracle That We Met) as the gangster boss, Kim Do-Hoon (The Escape of the Seven, Moving) as the judge’s son, Heo Nam-Jun (Sweet Home, The Impossible Heir) as the gangster’s son and Jung Eun-Chae (Pachinko, Anna) as the prosecutor.
Originally titled Kvodo when it launched on yes TV in 2017, Your Honor (S1 12×35’; S2 10×40’) is a compelling legal thriller telling the story of a respected senior judge whose son is involved in a hit-and-run accident, leading to difficult choices, moral dilemmas, and terrible consequences as he attempts to keep the crime a secret. It was created by Shlomo Mashiach and Ron Ninio, with Shlomo Mashiach as the writer and Ron Ninio directing. The original series was produced by Koda Communications and yes TV.
Sharon Levi, managing director at Yes Studios, comments: “MONSTER Company has successfully produced a high-end, dramatic and thrilling series, so we are excited that this latest version of Your Honor is now launching and cannot wait to see how it is received by audiences in South Korea. A parents’ unwavering need to protect their children is one of the most powerful universal themes there is, and when coupled with a storyline of this calibre, it is no surprise that Your Honor continues to appeal to international producers and broadcasters looking for a classy, proven drama to remake locally. This collaboration marks another step for us into the APAC region and we look forward to the strategic developments yet to come.”
