Ochre Moving Pictures has announced a double triumph for its latest crime drama, Soon Comes Night. Not only has the gripping series been selected to be featured at the prestigious Berlinale Series Market, but it has also claimed the number-one spot on Netflix within three days of its launch.

Marking its 10th anniversary, the Berlinale Series Market stands as a cornerstone of the European Film Market, providing a global stage for exceptional serial content that draws attention to outstanding series worldwide. The event, running from 19 to 21 February at CinemaxX, will showcase 15 series under the label “Berlinale Series Market Selects,” spotlighting content with exceptional market potential. As the market has evolved, high-quality serial content has become a lucrative aspect for distribution companies, with the EFM establishing itself as a pivotal hub for trading such content.

In addition to its prestigious selection at the Berlinale Series Market, “Soon Comes Night” achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the number one most-streamed series on Netflix South Africa within three days of its launch. This impressive accomplishment underscores the widespread appeal and resonant storytelling of the series.

Stan Joseph, Chief Executive Officer at Ochre Moving Pictures, expresses pride in the selection and Netflix success, stating, “ We are delighted by the way South African and African viewers have responded to our show. The recognition by the Berlinale to feature Soon Comes Night in their selected category is further proof that African stories can engage international audiences.

Thabang Moleya, Director of “Soon Comes Night,” shares the excitement, stating, “To have our series featured at the Berlinale Series Market is a recognition of our team’s hard work and dedication. It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase African narratives to a global audience. Netflix’s success further validates the universal appeal of our storytelling.”

Featuring an ensemble of talented and award-winning cast members, including leads Kwenzo Ngcobo, Albert Pretorius, Didintle Khunou, Sisanda Henna, and more, “Soon Comes Night” is the only African series presented at the Berlinale Series Market, standing out among carefully chosen series from around the world.

The series, produced by Ochre Moving Pictures and directed by the highly acclaimed Sanele Zulu and Thabang Moleya, showcases African storytelling at its finest. Spanning genres from historical biopics and political dramas to comedy, mystery, and explosive thrillers, the selected series represents a diverse array of narratives and genres.
