Keshet 12 and Keshet International are unveiling their next drama to launch in Israel and on the international market: The Best Worst Thing, an eight-part romantic drama produced by the company behind the Canneseries’ winning When Heroes Fly, Spiro Films.
Starring Hollywood film and Israeli TV actress Ayelet Zurer (Man of Steel, Angels and Demons, Munich) as a breast oncologist who finds herself sharing her own cancer treatment journey with a male politician, The Best Worst Thing (8×60’) is created by Rona Tamir, Tal Granit, and Sharon Maymon (see Notes to Editors below for credits). Produced by Spiro Films, the eight-part series is slated to premiere on Keshet 12, Israel’s most-watched TV channel, from 19 February 2024 ahead of its official launch to market by Keshet International this spring at MIPTV.
Keshet Broadcasting’s Head of Drama and Comedy, Karni Ziv says, “This heart-warming relationship drama has an uplifting message at its core – that even when things are as bad as you can ever imagine, there is still hope. Rona, Tal, and Sharon have lovingly imbued this series about cancer with compassion and humor, while Ayelet and Amos have made it all look real and believable on screen. Their love story makes for a compelling watch.”
On the very same day that leading breast cancer specialist Dr Amalia Levi (Ayelet Zurer) discovers a suspicious lump on her own chest, she diagnoses the life-changing disease in ambitious politician Micha Hadad (Amos Tamam). As they embark on a shared treatment journey together, fuelled by hope and fear, they discover they have more in common than a disease. Under the shadow of a ticking clock, Amalia and Micha discover that the worst thing that could possibly happen to them is also the best thing that has ever happened to them.
Keshet International’s MD of Distribution, Kelly Wright comments, “Following the success of Keshet 12’s A Body That Works and Trust No One on the international market last year, we are excited to share another Keshet drama with global buyers. We feel The Best Worst Thing is what many producers and platforms are looking for now – an uplifting, feel-good relationship drama that is both intimate and universal.”
The Best Worst Thing is the fourth drama on Keshet Broadcasting’s drama slate for Keshet 12 following A Body that Works (Goof Shlisi) (8×60’), Kuma Studios‘ intimate relationship drama that was selected in competition at Series Mania 2023, winning Rotem Sela and Gal Malka both Best Actress awards; Shenhar Productions‘ hotly anticipated thriller Trust No One (Harosh) (9×60’) which has been picked up in 20 territories by Netflix; and the second season of Israel’s highest rating drama, Line in the Sand (Ha’Shotrim) (8×60’), which has already sold in Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Poland and Spain, amongst other territories. Keshet International will unveil more of Keshet 12’s upcoming dramas at the London TV Screenings as part of their Scripted Event on Wednesday 28 February 2024.
