EST Studios boards international sales on Canneseries short-form premium drama Streams Flow From a River

Canadian scripted production company Fae Pictures announces that global Asian-focused media company EST Studios has acquired international sales rights for its series “Streams Flow From A River”. The news follows its International Premiere at the Canneseries Short Form Competition during MIPTV today.

Created by Christopher Yip, “Streams Flow From A River” illustrates the struggles Chinese Canadian immigrant families face while making a home in the West. The series follows the Chow family, who dreamed of owning land and placed their bets on a laundromat in the tiny rural town of Frank, Alberta. When a freak snowstorm traps the dysfunctional family together in their hometown, they are forced to confront events from a decade ago that tore them all apart.

Starring veteran Chinese Canadian actors who never got a chance to play a lead role, Jane Luk and Simon Sinn, and introducing rising stars Liam Ma and Danielle Ayow, the series is the only English-Canadian title in selection in this year’s Canneseries lineup. The series also features performances from prolific Canadian TV actor Jinny Wong, Hong Kong-Canadian actor Raymond Chan, and newcomers Dana Liu and Adrian So, playing the younger versions of the Chow family. The series also features performances from Indigenous actors Wesley French (Tribal) and Colton Clause (Three Pines), as well as Brett Houghton (Zero Chill) and Benjamin Sutherland (The Kings of Napa).

Produced by Shant Joshi (Framing Agnes), Lindsay Blair Goeldner (I Like Movies), Abdul Malik (Peace by Chocolate), and Lauren Saarimaki at Fae Pictures, the series is backed by the Independent Production Fund, Bell Fund, Ontario Creates, and Canadian broadcaster Super Channel.

EST Studios will introduce the 6-episode short-form series / 6-chapter feature film to buyers at the upcoming Marché du Film next month.

Fae Pictures’ president Shant Joshi says, “On our mission to decolonize Hollywood and bring dynamic global-facing content to audiences, we couldn’t have been happier to team up with EST Studios, a media company that is unapologetically championing the voice of global Asian youth throughout the diaspora.”

Shant Joshi of Fae Pictures, and Tenten Wei and Juefang Zhang of EST Studios brokered the deal.
