Leading independent distributor All3Media International – together with partners ARD Degeto, Germany; Masterpiece, USA; ITV, UK; and NPO, Holland confirmed that the second season of Amsterdam-based detective series Van Der Valk has begun production.
Michele Buck is Executive Producer for Company Pictures and Chris Murray returns as lead writer and showrunner. Marc Warren reprises his role as Commissaris Piet Van der Valk, and Maimie McCoy, Luke Allen-Gale, Elliot Barnes-Worrell, Darrell D’Silva and Emma Fielding all return to their respective roles, with guest stars soon to be announced.
All3Media International’s previously announced international sales for the first season included deals with European broadcasters Discovery (Italy), France Televisions (France), NRK (Norway), TV2 (Denmark), TV4 (Sweden), HRT (Croatia, Canal Cosmopolitan (Spain) and a pan-regional deal in the CIS region with Okko, as well as deals to Poland, Lithuania, Italian-speaking Switzerland, Finland, Flemish Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo and Slovenia.
In Asia, the show has played on NHK in Japan and ViuTVsix in Hong Kong. Deals have also been announced in Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan in addition to deals signed with ABC (Australia) and Sky (New Zealand). The drama secured further sales with DirecTV in Latin America, and BBC Global Channels will play the title in Africa.
The second series is produced in conjunction with NL Film & TV B.V. Dutch public broadcaster NPO is also onboard, with additional financing by Netherlands Film Production Incentive. NPO will take broadcast rights for the Netherlands. Directors are Jean Van De Velde (episode 1), André Van Duren (episode 2) and Joram Lürsen (episode 3).
