tvN, the Korean content trend leader is ending 2020 on a high note with strong ratings recorded for the year in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. In this season of giving, tvN announced a year-end rewards partnership with Southeast Asia’s leading e-commerce platform, Lazada, rewarding tvN viewers for their support in 2020. Starting from 16 December 2020, viewers in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines can stand to win vouchers worth more than USD50,000! This is Lazada’s first collaboration with a Korean TV content channel partner regionally where this campaign leverages both parties’ strong presence in Southeast Asia.
In Singapore, tvN is the #1 Korean Pay-TV channel and ranks #11 among all Pay TV channels from 01 Jan to 13 Dec 2020. The top 20 most-watched programs this year were tilted towards dramas (15 of the top 20 programs are Dramas) especially when tvN Asia continues streak of bringing 24-hour express drama exclusively on the Channel. Tale of The Nine Tailed starring Lee Dong-wook, Jo Bo-ah, and Kim Bum aired its finale earlier and the drama series has been topping viewership rating charts in Singapore since its premiere in October: its finale premiere broadcast ranked #1 among all Korean Pay TV channels and #2 among all Pay TV channels on Singtel and StarHub TV in Singapore in A20-49 (target audience). The two new express dramas – Mr. Queen and True Beautywhich premiered last week are off to a good start with the first two episodes ranking #1 among all Korean Pay TV channels in Singapore (target audience A20-49)
But the #1 most-watched Program this year to date is the LIVE telecast of 2020 MAMA on 06 December where rating increased almost five times as compared to 2019. This is the first year where MAMA show is fully online for the first time since 1999.
Fans in Malaysia simply love all the dramas on tvN with all Top 20 programs being Express dramas. Tale of the Nine Tailed was a phenomenal hit coming at #1 most-watched Program and grabbed almost all the Top 20 positions with Memorist and Flower of Evil in second and third positions. True Beauty is also off to a great start clinching the #1 spot among all the express dramas from Korea in Malaysia on Astro when it premiered last Thursday. Mr. Queen which debut in Korea on 12 December had a great start and according to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of Mr. Queen scored an average nationwide rating of 8.0 percent and a peak of 9.9 percent, making it the #1 drama in the same Timeslot and #2 highest debut of a weekend tvN drama in history, after Mr. Sunshine. Malaysia’s performance is not available yet at the point of release.
This year, tvN has exclusively aired seven Express dramas and will increase more Express dramas in 2021 for the viewers.
Over in Indonesia, tvN is also the #1 Korean Pay-TV channel on the country’s two biggest platforms; IndiHome in terms of total views with viewing time growing >150% since the start of 2020 and MAXstream since the launch in August 2020. Both platforms have a combined reach of 163 million subscribers.
Starting on the 16th of December, tvN subscribers in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore just have to stay tuned to the channel and look out for the Season of Giving QR code that will be flashed at random timings in the day. True Beauty (Every Thursday and Friday 9:45 p.m.), adapted from the popular webtoon of the same title with more than 4 billion views depicts the romance story of a high-school student Im Joo-kyeong (Moon Ga-young), who puts on makeup all the time to hide her bare face, and two men Lee Soo-ho and Han Seo-joon (Cha Eun-woo, Hwang In-yeop). In Mr. Queen (Every Sunday and Monday, 9:45 p.m.), a male chef Bong-hwan (Shin Hye-sun) travels back in time to Joseon Dynasty as the queen of the country- Queen Cheorin. There he meets King Chul-jong (Kim Jung-hyun), a ‘puppet’ king who harbors secrets, and is not as gentle and meek as he seems.
