big big channel, a social media platform for fans to interact with TVB artistes, emerged last year as a crowd puller of millions of registered users and followers worldwide.
big big channel provides an array of functions that allow users to engage with their favourite shows and artistes on mobile phones and tablets, anytime and anywhere. With more than 600 TVB artistes in hand and key opinion leaders (KOL) from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and Korea, all uploading videos and sharing their daily lives, big big channel gives users a fresh and innovative viewing experience and initiates interaction on the platform.
Miss Sandy Yu, Assistant General Manager of Television Broadcasts Limited (Non-Drama Production) said: “We are moving into the next phase to facilitate e-commerce activities on the platform. We are developing a social mall with merchandise endorsed in our shows on big big channel. For example, a cooking show could feature ladies using kitchen utensils, and these items could be made for sales at an exclusive price only on big big channel before hitting the regular malls. This new function would allow the audience to purchase the products as soon as they see them in the programmes of big big channel.”
“Similarly, a travelogue host could introduce a specific product he or she found in another country which we can bring to our users at an exclusive price. The list will go on to costumes, make-up set, shoes, perfumes, health products and food, etc. Artistes or KOLs could also discuss about the cosmetics or clothing to interest the users. We will sell exclusive products that also carry the trademark of the artistes,” she added.
“Besides e-commerce activities, the platform is launching big big shop which will offer limited edition crossover products by TVB stars for different brand names. Viewers can tag along as celebrities go shopping around the world. big big shop will offer users a unique and full-filled online shopping experience. Aside from shopping, big big channel is adding even more exciting content, for instance, Celebrity Playground which is an interactive game show where viewers can participate online for a chance to win big prizes. Duet with Celebrities will allow fans to sing a duet with their idol by using mobile phone, and share their performance on social media. We will partner with our advertisers to create a backstage food carnival Seasonal Limited Editions during variety shows and that can create a brand new advertising avenue,” she said.
On top of the new development of big big channel, she stressed that TVB variety shows are also taking a new dimension by collaborating with regional countries to produce more Mandarin programmes. “Currently we have launched a TVB production office in Taiwan producing several variety shows with Taiwanese artistes. We aim at becoming Mandarin production hub eventually within Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia and TVB is positioned as the regional non-drama production house. In the future, we will launch a new lifestyle channel for both TVB and big big channel featuring the latest trends in Taiwan, Tokyo, Osaka, UK and Canada, etc. or any activities that would attract the youth.” She said.
