MADRID – Twenty-five years ago, all eyes around the world were on Barcelona, Spain, as it hosted its first Olympic Games in what would become a lasting symbol for the city. In honour of the 25th anniversary of the Olympic Games Barcelona 1992, the Olympic Channel global digital platform presents a celebration of Barcelona 1992, including full event replays of iconic moments, revisiting the city as it celebrates, an interactive retro game and robust social media activity.
Starting with the shot of Antonio Rebollo’s single flaming arrow during a memorable Opening Ceremony, the Barcelona Games showed a new and exciting city to the world. Much of the feel-good factor can be attributed to the numerous new sites Barcelona now featured, along with a host of renovated districts and buildings, leaving a legacy of urban regeneration for residential housing, public facilities, a new seafront and transport infrastructure, and education and job opportunities, transforming it into one of the most popular city destinations in the world.
And in full view of some of the city’s iconic landmarks such as Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia, the spirit of the Games and mankind’s triumphant nature were out in full force in the early ’90s. From heart-warming displays of camaraderie to record-breaking performances, the Olympic Channel invites the world to revisit the spirit of Barcelona 1992 on its global digital platform and on its mobile apps.
