REED MIDEM’s the organiser of MIPTV, MIPDoc, MIPFormats, MIPCOM and MIPJunior is expanding its global television footprint. The first stage of this global strategy saw the launch of MIPCancun, the inaugural Latin American Buyers’ Summit which took place in Mexico from November 19 -21, 2014. The high- level event benefited from a global partnership with Mexican media powerhouse TV Azteca and a knowledge partnership with market analysis expert Eurodata.
REED MIDEM is also strengthening its co-operation with the Asia Television Forum & Market (ATF) which takes place in Singapore from December 6 – 9, 2016. ATF reinforces an existing relationship. Like MPTV and MIPCOM, ATF is part of Reed Exhibitions portfolio of events and has hosted the MIPAcademy workshops in Singapore since 2013.

MIPAcademy was also launched in Korea at the Busan Content Market in 2015 as part of the strategy to extend the MIP brand to all continents.
Recently, REED MIDEM, has revealed plans to launch a new summit in China. MIP China Hangzhou will run from May 23 – 25 next year – for the first time a MIP market has been organised to be held in China. The summit will be split into two parts, one of which will focus on fostering relationships between Chinese and international production companies, with 40 international TV outfits set to meet with 40 senior Chinese media executives.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit production studios based in and around Hangzhou, home to companies such as Alibaba and Huace TV & Film. The second part of the event will see 150 delegates attend a training conference to share information on TV trends, international distribution, online video and virtual reality.
“MIP China Hangzhou will provide a much-needed platform for international programme professionals to meet with their counterparts from companies throughout China,” said Dong Yue, Hangzhou mayor’s representative.
“Cross-border content development is more than ever a strategic choice for entertainment production companies looking to capture local and global audiences,” added REED MIDEM Chief Executive Paul Zilk.
The event has been organised in partnership with China Media Management and Zhejiang Mega Media, organiser of the Zhejiang Provincial pavilion at the MIP markets in Cannes.
Film and TV are in the crossroad as the lines are blurring between them. All are erased out by the steady stream of critically acclaimed scripted series that have redefined TV’s creative capabilities. This is a notable debate that I like to discuss in the November issue of Television Asia.
