Seoul, Korea – CJ E&M has announced the creation of its animation business division, in a ceremony held at CJ HumanVille in downtown Seoul. The event also unveiled a new television animation series, titled Robot Trains RT, in front of 400 industry leaders and watchers.
With the latest launch, CJ E&M plans to invest 15 million U.S. dollars this year alone to develop animation content. Such investment is not new to CJ E&M as it had been actively involved in supporting local animation creators by holding various exhibitions for them.
The new division will carry out a range of business in animation. It will develop, produce and distribute content, while operating licensing and character production business as well. Its license partnership with DreamWorks is also expected to create synergy with companies in Korea.
CJ E&M’s animation business is paying particular attention to the Chinese market. In the first half of this year, the division plans to set up a team solely dedicated to developing business in China, where the government has recently eased its decades-long family planning policy.
“With aggressive investment and tactful marketing, we are putting forth our best efforts to produce a variety of high-quality animations in order to lead the global market and give a boost to the local animation market as well,” said Ji-Soo Han, head of the new animation business division.
