“Marry Me” sold in 74 territories worldwide

December 9, 2014 by TVA Editor

Culver City, California – Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced that it has licensed Marry Me, its new comedy from the executive producers of Happy Endings, into 74 territories across six continents.

“We have had tremendous interest in Marry Me ever since our first client screening. There is a universality to this story and these characters, so we anticipate that audiences around the globe will enjoy this charming romantic comedy,” said Keith Le Goy, President, International Distribution for SPT.

Canal Sony has acquired the rights to the comedy across 23 territories in Latin America, including Mexico, Colombia and Argentina. Marry Me will also air on the channel in Brazil. The series is slated to debut across the region in early 2015.

SPT has also completed several deals for Marry Me across Europe. MTG has acquired the series for its free TV channel and SVOD service in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. In Ireland, RTE has secured the comedy for RTE2. D-Smart has also picked up the rights to the series in Turkey and Turkish-speaking Cyprus for their DiziSmart Platin channel. Marry Me has also been licensed to Icelandic broadcaster 365.

Across the Middle East and North Africa, pay TV broadcaster OSN has picked up Marry Me for its channel OSN First Comedy HD, to premiere in 20 territories in early 2015.

In Asia-Pacific, RTL CBS Entertainment has secured the rights to Marry Me, bringing the SPT series to 15 territories next year, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. The comedy has also been acquired in China by the video-streaming platform iQiyi.com.

As previously announced, Marry Me has been licensed to Channel 4 in the UK, where it will air in early 2015, as well as Seven Network in Australia and TV New Zealand. In addition, Shaw Media has acquired the series in Canada for Global, where it currently airs on Friday nights.

Marry Me premiered in the U.S. in October and is currently NBC’s No. 1 comedy this season. It is also the most-watched Tuesday night comedy this season on any broadcast network among Total Viewers, and the No. 2 new comedy overall among Adults 18-49, based on Live +7 data from Nielsen Media Research.

David Caspe (Happy Endings, That’s My Boy), Jamie Tarses (Happy Endings, Franklin & Bash), Seth Gordon (The Goldbergs, Horrible Bosses), Moses Port (Happy Endings, Community) and David Guarascio (Happy Endings, Community) serve as executive producers. Marry Me is produced by Shark Vs. Bear, FanFare Productions and Sethsquatch Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television.
