The Walt Disney Company SEA appoints GM of Studio Entertainment SEA

October 24, 2014 by TVA Editor

Singapore – The Walt Disney Company in South East Asia (SEA) announced changes to its management team to position for rapid growth in the film and media distribution landscape in the region. Amit Malhotra, previously General Manager Disney Media Distribution and Media+ becomes General Manager, Studio Entertainment SEA and will oversee all the Studio businesses (Theatrical, In-Home, Live Events and Stage Plays) in Southeast Asia.

As a result of these changes Mark Chan will take on an expanded role as Head – Disney Media Distribution reporting to Malhotra. These changes will enable Disney to better utilise the distribution and marketing success of its iconic titles across multiple parts of the business and implement the necessary steps to position for the fast moving, and increasingly digital entertainment landscape, while deepening relationships with all stakeholders in SEA.

Amit Maholtra

“Amit has played a key role in our SEA management team since 2012 and over this time has worked to identify integrated growth strategies for clients and businesses across the region,” said Robert Gilby, Managing Director, The Walt Disney Company, SEA. “Amit has a proven track record in super-serving our business partners, securing value and growth for Disney, and creating marketing opportunities to promote other lines of business. We’re excited to see Amit bring these skills to our Studio partners and across all businesses. I’m also pleased that these changes provide an expanded responsibility for Mark, who has been instrumental to many of our Media Distribution successes.”

In this new remit Chan who first started with Disney in 2003, will be responsible for the distribution and commercial growth of the entire media distribution portfolio of TWDC in SEA (Disney Channels portfolio, ABC Family, ABC News, ABC Studios, Walt Disney Studios, Digital Products, Games and Music) to all TV and digital platforms.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to be a part of Walt Disney Studios and bring the magic of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucas to families across the Southeast Asia region. In integrating our businesses, it provides us a unique opportunity to deepen our relationships with our consumers and partners across the region,” said Malhotra. Before joining Disney in 2004, Malhotra worked in IMG/TWI, Indya and MTV.
