Singapore – Scripps Networks Interactive, announced the launch of top-rated U.S. home lifestyle channel HGTV in Singapore on September 4. Beginning in December 2014, HGTV will debut on StarHub as the first regional channel dedicated to the growing home and lifestyle category in Asia.
With growing demand for high quality home lifestyle entertainment in Asia, HGTV will premiere with a robust line up of top-rated programs about property, hybrid construction, design and extreme spaces. Hit programs such as Property Brothers, Kitchen Cousins and The High Low Project, will entertain and inspire viewers with fresh ideas and authentic stories on how to find and love their own dream home. As a continued commitment to cater to local audiences, Scripps Networks will also produce localized original short-form content exclusively for the launch of HGTV in Asia, based on the popular series, Extreme Homes.
When asked about the launch, Kathleen Finch, president of HGTV said, “Scripps Networks launched HGTV in the U.S. 20 years ago, and the network has grown markedly since then. It is now the number one upscale network for woman and is also ranked as one of the top 10 cable networks across all categories, with a reach of more than 99 million households. We have seen an increasing demand for high-quality lifestyle content all around the world and are excited to continue the HGTV brand’s global expansion, starting with the Asian region.”
Derek Chang, managing director of Scripps Networks Asia-Pacific said, “HGTV has achieved great success in the U.S, and we are now excited to mirror this in Asia. The home category is not widely represented in the region, which offers a great opportunity for Scripps Networks to bring HGTV to our audiences, and as a complement to our offering of the Asian Food Channel, Food Network and Travel Channel, it further solidifies our position as the leading provider of lifestyle entertainment in the region. I would like to personally thank Tong Hai and his team from StarHub, who were instrumental to our launch in Asia and look forward to working with StarHub to bring the HGTV experience to StarHub viewers in Singapore.”
Lee Soo Hui, Head of Media Business Unit, StarHub, added, “StarHub and Scripps have a strong partnership which has seen the launch of many successful channels. We are especially thrilled that StarHub TV customers will be the first in Asia to enjoy HGTV which will be showcased in high definition, and believe that HGTV’s content will be well-received in Singapore. With the addition of HGTV, our viewers can now look forward to enjoying a full suite of Scripps lifestyle programmes dedicated to the home, food and travel category.”
HGTV joins the Scripps Networks family of lifestyle channels that are available in Asia, which include the Asian Food Channel, Food Network and Travel Channel. As the world’s leading producer of lifestyle content, Scripps Networks provides access to the largest library of home, food and travel content, all under one media portfolio.
