Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific (DNAP) celebrates a significant milestone in 2014, marking 20 years since Discovery Channel was launched in the region, with the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia among the first countries to receive the network. DNAP’s portfolio of eight channels reaches 596 million cumulative subscribers across the Asia-Pacific region, in 36 countries and territories, with content offered across 48 feeds and 15 languages as of May 6, 2014.
To kick-off its 20th anniversary celebrations, DNAP has launched a new brand campaign for Discovery Channel titled “How on Earth!?”. The campaign focuses on the insatiable thirst for knowledge among audiences, and the network’s role in fuelling curiosity.
Arjan Hoekstra, President & Managing Director, DNAP, said: “As the Asia-Pacific region’s first factual entertainment channel and still holding the #1 spot, Discovery Channel has always been guided by a bold sense of ambition. For 20 years, we have captivated our viewers with content that provokes, entertains and broadens their perspectives.”
Discovery Channel has had great success in Asia-Pacific over the past two decades with its iconic series, such as Deadliest Catch, Man vs. Wild, Mythbusters, Gold Rush and River Monsters. This May, Discovery Channel invites its viewers to relive the big first moments of these iconic shows with “Discovery Channel Firsts”. This special programming event will feature the very first episodes of 10 Discovery Channel shows, which have established themselves as firm favourites and today rank among the channel’s and pay-TV’s top-rating programmes in the region.
As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, Discovery Channel’s “River Monsters Live in Asia’ tour will bring Jeremy Wade, host of River Monsters, to Jakarta (May 22), Kuala Lumpur (May 24) and Singapore (May 25), and viewers will have the opportunity to meet him in person at special events in these three cities.
