In Germany, where the format originally launched on ProSieben in February this year, the series outperformed the channel’s daily average by 12%.
Iris Boelhouwer, Endemol’s MD of Creative Operations said: “Host in the Box is a clever and entertaining format which is a proven hit in Germany, one of the world’s biggest television markets. This latest deal in Spain is a great example of how the format can be reworked for any territory and we expect viewers will love seeing the host thrown out of their comfort zone into an entirely new world.”
Host in the Box follows the journey of a presenter as they set out to explore the life they never had. Each episode, the host is locked in a wooden box and shipped off to a different location equipped with nothing but burning curiosity and the box they arrive in.
From rough riding Hell’s Angels to the sober Amish and wild porn actors, the host must adapt to a completely different lifestyles than what they are used to. By immersing themselves into daily activities and completing tasks, they will have a better understanding of their world. Before the host is shipped off on a new adventure, the deciding question is asked: is this new lifestyle for them?
