SPT makes new senior appointment for APAC

Singapore– Hui Keng (HK) Ang has been promoted to Senior Vice Pr​esident and G​eneral M​anager, â€‹N​etworks, Asia for Sony Pictures Television (SPT), it was announced by George Chien, E​xecutive V​ice P​resident,N​etworks, Asia-Pacific for SPT, to whom he reports. Based in Singapore, Ang will oversee the networks’ robust portfolio of channels across Southeast Asia, including AXN, Sony Entertainment Television, beTV, ONE, Animax and the recently-announced GEM. In addition, he will continue to manage the company’s interest in joint-venture networks AXN and Animax in Korea, as well as Televiva in Indonesia.

“HK is a respected member of Asia’s television community and has been instrumental in the growth and continued success of our channels across the region,” said Chien. “We will leverage his expertise and nearly two decades of experience to guide the expansion of our channels business in this high-growth market.”

Prior to this announcement, Ang served as senior vice president, business operations, where he managed SPT Networks Asia’s channel operations, finance, technology and human resources.

​He was also responsible for the networks’ burgeoning Asian content portfolio, including Animax, which is currently available in 46 million homes across 17 markets; as well as ONE, which launched in 2010 and under his guidance has grown to be one of the top-rated pay-TV channels in Malaysia and Singapore.

Ang joined SPT Networks, Asia as financial controller in 1997 as part of the original launch team for AXN in Singapore, where he was responsible for establishing the regional financial systems and policies for the network. He was promoted to vice president of finance, distribution and administration in 2000, and was named vice president, channels management in 2007.

Before joining SPT Networks, Asia, Ang held management positions in finance and accounting at technology manufacturer Maxtor.
