The Economic Times has reported that Ronnie Screwvala is stepping down from his post as Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company’s (TWDC) India operations. Siddharth Roy Kapur, currently MD, Disney UTV’s studio’s business, will take over the company’s India operations effective January 1, 2014, with Screwvala assisting in the transition until June 2014, added the report.
The Walt Disney Company India started operations in July 2004 with its head office located in Mumbai, and in February 2012, acquired a controlling stake in UTV. Then-CEO of UTV Ronnie Screwvala was named Managing Director, The Walt Disney Company India reporting to Andy Bird, Chairman, Walt Disney International.
According to the report, the combined Disney UTV entity comprises five core brands: Disney, Marvel, UTV, Bindass and Hungama, and is a nine-broadcast-channel network that ranks in the top five networks of the country and which has full local production capabilities.
