Los Angeles– Star Media Group, Studio Kvartal-95 and Inter TV channel have signed the format sale option for the Ukrainian mass dance series Go Dance! with Metan Development Group for the Greater China territory. This marks the first Ukrainian deal of the region.
Created and broadcasted in Ukraine, Go Dance! has already seen three seasons on Inter TV channel. It features hundreds of dancers from various cities in a competition to be crowned as their country’s ‘Dance Capital’. Beijing-based production company Mei Tian Mei Yu will develop and adapt the format for Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking audiences.
In the series, teams of up to five hundred dancers prepare and rehearse their numbers with professional choreographers. The teams then battle in a two-hour live dance competition, staged weekly in the main square of the country’s capital. A jury and viewers at home vote on the winners, who receive a cash prize and win the title of Dance Capital for their home town.
“The format shows a good performance in sales to international markets, and I’m glad that this trend persists. The popularity of the Go Dance! is definitely growing. In addition to China, Australia, Sweden, Spain and India have shown interest in the adaptation of the format for their territories. We look forward to presenting the series to all international TV buyers,” said Vlad Ryashin, Producer and CEO of Star Media Group.
The Go Dance! format has also been sold to MY Tupelo Entertainment in the U.S., and agreements are in place with French production company Effervescence and Norway’s Nice Entertainment Group.
