Paris – Novovision has entered the world of animation with its brand new show, Pop Toon, aimed at those aged 6-13. It will present the series at next month’s Asia Television Forum (ATF) in Singapore.
The series will comprise 300 shows, of which 25 half-hour shows are ready for delivery. It is made up of short, non-verbal cartoons, which Novovision’s recently-created acquisitions department has picked up from around the world, mainly from the golden age of animation.
Pop Toon was very favourably received at last month’s MIPCOM, where it was unveiled. The Indonesian public broadcaster TVRI has already acquired 56 shows, and many territories – including Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, the UK and Ireland – have expressed an interest and should finalise deals soon.
Novovision’s participation in the upcoming ATF in Singapore is in response to the success of its short-format, non-verbal humorous programming with channels in the Asia/Pacific region. Novovision’s shows are now broadcast in practically all territories across the region, which currently accounts for almost 60% of its sales.
Most recently, Thailand’s leading cable and satellite channel TrueVisions signed up for 170 shows of Crazy Hidden Camera, plus 30 episodes of Hilarious Home Video, while TVRI in Indonesia acquired 104 shows of Pop Corn TV, in addition to the Pop Toon deal mentioned above.
Other flagship shows on Novovision’s slate at ATF include the new candid camera series Mad Family involving the production of some 1,200 gags, and which is broken down into four sub-series – Mad Grandma, Mad Kids, Mad Girls and Mad Animals. The company will also be showcasing Gagsters, a 26×30’ candid camera series in which children pull pranks on other kids and grown-ups, for which Novovision has acquired world rights.
“We’re delighted to be presenting Pop Toon to Asian broadcasters at the forthcoming Asia Television Forum,” says Novovision founder and President François-Xavier Poirier. “With this show, Novovision is launching into a new sector – that of animation, a genre appreciated by all audiences. Thanks to our acquisitions, we now have access to a vast range of cartoon material, enabling us to produce around 100 top-quality episodes of Pop Toon. At the next MIPTV, Novovision will for once be able to break with its traditional editorial line, and offer Pop Toon shows with dialogue in both English and French.”
