Selena Gomez is set to return to Disney Channel’s Emmy Award and BAFTA-winning Wizards of Waverly Place, a one-hour TV event scheduled to premiere early next year. Gomez will also executive-produce the show, which will begin production this month in Los Angeles.
Wizards of Waverly Place is Gomez’s breakthrough series and one of Disney Channel’s most successful series ever. It premiered in 2007 and has been a ratings driver worldwide. In the first quarter of this year, the series reached over 175 million unduplicated viewers in 163 countries and 32 languages. It inspired Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie, which ranked as the top cable television movie of 2009 and is the second best cable TV movie of all time (after High School Musical 2).
“With the phenomenal ratings of the Wizards finale earlier this year, it became clear that fans of the series were not ready to say goodbye to Selena or the rest of the Wizards cast. As such, we’re thrilled that the cast has agreed to reunite to bring their fans one last grand adventure,” said Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide.
Gomez will be joined by co-stars Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, David DeLuise and Gregg Sulkin, who will reprise the roles they made popular.
