Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company, will partner with dancer and choreographer Michael Flatley to launch the World Dance Awards.

The announcement was made by Weinstein during his keynote address at MIPCOM in Cannes on October 9. The television event is being compared to the Grammys, and will see dancers from around the world competing for the yet-unannounced categories.

This project is said to be another step in The Weinstein Co.’s expansion of its TV portfolio.
