Malaysia, Singapore shake hands on content partnerships

October 23, 2012 by TVA Editor

Malaysia and Singapore are combining their efforts and resources to penetrate the global entertainment and media industry. For the first time in history, National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and Singapore’s Media Development Authority (MDA) joined forces to co-host and co-organise a Malaysia-Singapore Cocktail Reception at MIPCOM.

The event has over 70 Malaysian and Singaporean company delegates hosting international guests, comprising of the most prominent broadcasters, distributors, producers and investors, from the world’s largest market. It also features a state-of-the-art showcase of the latest available programmes for sales and distribution in the market, recently produced and developed by Malaysian and Singaporean studios.

“I am proud to say that this campaign to boost cooperation between the two countries’ creative industries is timely as we share common interests, cultures, traditions, languages and race. We commend Singapore’s positive efforts and welcome mutually-beneficial collaboration in Iskandar Malaysia, and noted the potential for Iskandar Malaysia to provide industrial facilities and infrastructure for Singapore companies to expand their projects into Iskandar Malaysia,” said H.E. Dato’ Sri Kamaruddin Siaraf, Secretary General of the Malaysian Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture.

Mohd Naguib Razak, Director General of FINAS, commented, “Sharing efforts and resources together amongst regional neighbours, such as Singapore, makes perfect sense and should bring a wealth of positives to both our countries, especially when Malaysia and Singapore are geographically located adjacent to each other and able to strategically benefit on each others strengths, who are both world-class digital content providers and possess a high-growth sector known worldwide.”

Yeo Chun Cheng, Assistant Chief Executive Officer of MDA, said, “To take full advantage of the fast expanding growth of Asia’s media industry, it is crucial for Singapore and Malaysia’s media industries to grow in tandem and collaborate in media projects together with the interest of penetrating the global market. This first of many future events by Singapore and Malaysia is only the beginning in the efforts to further synergise our efforts, and open the way for Singapore and Malaysian companies to create compelling content that resonates with local and international audiences.”
