Entertainment channel Syfy has launched Syfy Shorts, a short film competition for aspiring filmmakers in Southeast Asia to showcase their works on prime time television. Participants have to submit an original five-minute film incorporating the channel’s “Imagine Greater” theme. The panel of judges for Syfy Shorts comprises of Singaporean filmmaker Eric Khoo; Managing Director of visual effects and animation studio Infinite Frameworks, Mike Wiluan; and Syfy’s VP of SEA Channels, David Gunson. In conjunction with the competition, the channel is hosting a workshop in Singapore on 14 December for budding filmmakers to gain insights to filmmaking from established industry personalities such as Khoo. The workshop’s theme is “Imagination on a budget”, and attendees will learn how it is possible to produce good films within a tight budget.
