Singapore/Ho Chi Minh City – Viacom International Media Networks and UTV today announced the launch of a dedicated MTV service for Vietnam. Commencing at 20:00 tonight, MTV Vietnam will air 24-hours a day with a reach of more than 900,000 Cable TV households via cable operators VCTV, HCTV, K+, VTC, MyTV, and HCATV. The channel will launch with MTV Thích Mê, a local music request show during the channel’s primetime Vietnamese-produced 2-hour programming block. Other localized weekend programming includes MTV K-Pop Top 50 and MTV Chart Attack Top 20 that will be hosted by MTV Vietnam’s new local VJs – VJ Vu, VJ Khoa and VJ Chi. Plans for MTV Vietnam include local productions, LIVE events and an enhanced range of programmes specially catered for the Vietnamese youth market. The duration of localized programming will be increased over the year with the intention of having a fully localized channel. “MTV is the first channel to quickly adapt to Vietnam’s new regulations for Pay TV that took effect on 19 May,” said Mr. Long Vu, Director of Cable Editorial Board, Vietnam Television. “The channel’s launch shows MTV’s long-term commitment to the youth and the local entertainment industry by bringing modern and dynamic content that resonates with the local audience while remaining culturally suitable.”
