Hong Kong – Sony Pictures Television’s (SPT) magazine talk show, The Dr. Oz Show, broke new grounds with a commission of the format by Zhejiang Satellite TV, which reaches 876 million viewers in China. Production has started on 31 episodes for the first season which will go on the air in mid October. The show, which launches on 13 October, is being produced by Huaso Productions, a joint venture production company between SPT and China Film Group. The announcement was made by Kees Abrahams, president, international production, SPT. The sale has set a number of firsts: most notably, it represents the first time a US talk show format has been produced in China and is also the first time a Hollywood studio has co-produced a talk show for Chinese television. The Chinese version of The Dr. Oz Show is also the first show to feature various traditional Chinese doctors and a doctor of western medicine. The Chinese show, locally called Health is Most Important, is fronted by well-known TV celebrity, Liang Dong, who is supported by three co-hosts, all of whom are doctors. Dr. Wang Hao Ran, who specializes in western medicine, will join Dr. Lui Jie and Dr. Lin Wan Shuo, both experts in Chinese medicine. Zhejiang Satellite TV is the number two satellite channel in China.
