Hong Kong – Television Broadcasts Ltd (TVB) may soon have a new owner as Henderson Land Development chairman Lee Shau-kee’s son Peter Lee Ka-kit is in talks about buying stakes in the station. A spokeswoman for Henderson Land confirmed last week that the younger Lee, who is vice chairman of the developer, is working on the deal with representatives of Shaw Brothers. But she stressed that Lee Shau-kee is not personally involved in any negotiations, The Standard reported on 28 September 2010. Spokeswoman added that Peter Lee’s interest in the broadcaster is preliminary and no agreement has been reached. Linus Yip, strategist at First Shanghai Securities in Hong Kong told Television Asia Plus, “TVB is the market leader of the media industry in Hong Kong and has established good channel and relationships in mainland China. It’s no wonder TVB would be the acquired target when the media industry in Greater China is booming.” “The competition among the players in the industry is increasing which in turn gives room for newcomers,” he notes.
