Shanghai/Singapore – Shanghai Media Group’s WingsMedia, Singapore’s MyChinaChannel (MCC) and Singapore’s MediaCorp TV Singapore Pte Ltd (MediaCorp) have signed a memorandum of understanding at the August 2010 China International Film & TV Programs Exhibition in Beijing to jointly develop and distribute the TV drama, QianJin. The 2008 Singapore drama production, The Little Nyonya, was one of the most popular dramas in Singapore’s history. It received critical acclaim, garnering 16 nominations at the 2009 Star Awards and was the highest rated drama on MediaCorp’s Channel 8 in 15 years. It saw similar success in China, where audiences embraced it like no other made in Singapore drama. Leveraging its incredible popularity, SMG WingsMedia, MyChinaChannel and MediaCorp are co-developing a Chinese version of the series, titled QianJin. The story will be set during the period of the early 20th Century and localized to suit the tastes of audiences in China. MediaCorp, who conceptualized and owned the original The Little Nyonya series, will work jointly with MyChinaChannel as co-executive producers and as distributors of the programme outside China. SMG WingsMedia will co-develop and distribute the series to audiences in China. Past projects between SMG WingsMedia and MyChinaChannel include My China Destiny, China Trend, China Money Mind, and A New Beginning.
