Singapore – Universal Channel will switch to a new look on air on 24 June 2010. The announcement was made by Raymund Miranda, Universal Networks International’s (UNI) Managing Director for the Asia Pacific. “We are signaling the next phase of our engagement in the Asia Pacific through a refreshed brand package for our flagship channel,” Miranda explained. Miranda added, “Beyond new graphics packages and new brands, we have heavily invested in fresh and original content for our channels as well as a fresh marketing approach that is aimed at delivering an emotional connection with our audiences.” The ambitious content strategy includes a slate of global original productions and acquisitions. UNI will be announcing more significant content acquisitions in the coming weeks. These changes follow the announcement made last October by Roma Khanna, president of Universal Networks International when she unveiled the new portfolio of channel brands that would be used by the global channels network of NBC Universal. Universal Networks International has joined with leading independent studio E1 Entertainment to announce a partnership on the original production, Shattered. The series is a 13 x one-hour police procedural with a twist following an unconventional homicide detective with a chilling secret. E1 Entertainment has produced and is handling the worldwide distribution rights to the series, in association with Universal Networks International who will handle exclusive pay TV broadcast rights internationally, where the show will broadcast on Universal Channel and 13th STREET Universal.
