Singapore – There are believed to have been a number of lay-offs in production and commercial distribution at Bloomberg TV’s operations in Singapore, with redundancies of Tokyo-based technical and operations staff expected to follow. Meanwhile Mark Froude, who has been Bloomberg TV’s advertising sales representative for a number of years, has joined the company full-time with responsibility for the Asia Pacific region, including Japan and Australia. First signs of change in Asia came when it was announced that commercial director Lindsay Oliver was to add Asia to her EMEA responsibilities. Similarly Bloomberg TV Head for Europe and EMEA Brian Martinez added Asia to his job title. This was followed by the departure of Shawn Galey, Bloomberg TV’s managing director commercial affairs Asia, in an apparent reorganization. Galey had previously told Television Asia Plus that the network was investing in its channel in a move to boost affiliate revenues. Last week’s cutting back of production staff and appointment of Froude signals an apparent change of strategy, with the channel looking to focus on revenues from advertising sales rather than affiliates.
