French-language network TV5MONDE has launched two subscription SMS alert services to all Asia-Pacific smartphone users. There are two separate offerings for football fans and news addicts. The football service will comprise of three alerts on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays to give access to text updates on the French ‘Ligue 1’ championship and a video preview of the weekly live match on TV5MONDE; scores and updated rankings after the Saturday games; and final scores, rankings and summarized video highlights of all the games. Subscription is priced at USD 0.99 per championship day until the end of the season. Subscribers to the news alert service will receive a SMS on each weekday morning to access all TV5MONDE news bulletins in video; text news feeds; and all TV5MONDE programme information. Subscription is priced at either USD$4.99 per month or USD$54.99 per year. Subscribers to either service will receive a tiny URL by SMS redirecting to the content on a secure mobile webpage. Platform has been developed by HK-based mobile company TheTMSWay and is entirely telco-independent, enabling any 3G/WiFi user in the region to access the content from any wired mobile.
