Bangkok – TrueVisions plans to add five channels this year to grab new advertising opportunities after it received approval to run commercials last year, reports Bangkok Post. TrueVisions can now run up to six minutes of commercials per hour, which has prompted demands from subscribers for a cut in fees. But Supachai Chearavanont, CEO of its parent True Corp, has said that TrueVisions had no policy to reduce subscriptions. This year, the pay-TV operator will invest in eight new channels, each with a budget between 50 million and 100 million baht. Three will be given to MCOT Plc, the state-owned broadcaster and concession holder, to run for its own purposes. The other five will be dedicated to TrueVisions’ own programmes, according to the report. TrueVisions has a clear policy of developing content and programmes for export to some countries in Asia in the near future. Thiti Nantapatsiri, managing director of TrueVisions, said the company expects to generate advertising revenues of between 750 million and 1 billion baht, up from an earlier projection of 500 million, because the response from advertisers has been very good. Sixteen channels of TrueVisions now run commercials. The five new channels including Woman Channel, featuring homes and decoration content, will begin broadcasting from May. This year, TrueVisions expects to increase its revenue by almost 10% from 1.7 million baht last year and to increase subscribers by 15-20%, said the report.
