Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) has launched an IPTV service called ‘Watchpad’ with media partner Mediascape. The new service is initially available to subscribers of PLDT’s broadband service ‘myDSL’ for free, and offers channels including National Geographic, Cartoon Network, Pinoy Box Office, CNN, Animax Mobile, CNBC and GMA 7, with more channels to be launched soon. Accrding to Eric Alberto, head of customer sales and marketing at PLDT, there will be further, bigger broadband service announcements coming in the future. The telco had 484,000 DSL subscribers as of the end of the first quarter of this year.
