Cyberjaya – The Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak went to MIPCOM 2009 in Palais des Festivals, in support of MSC Malaysia creative multimedia mission in the prestigious event. The mission is aimed at enhancing economic relations in the creative industry sector between Malaysia and other participating global digital content companies from all over the world who have gathered in Cannes for the MIPCOM 2009. Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), the government agency spearheading Malaysia’s information communication technology (ICT) initiative supported 11 creative multimedia companies for this trade mission. The companies are expected to firm up contracts and deals valued at approximately RM 264.37 mil (USD 75.53), over the next 12 to 24 months. The Malaysian delegation include world class Malaysian companies such as Animasia Studio, Backbone Entertainment, Cartoon4Kids, Enershia, Inspidea, Shock3D, Young Jump, Juitaviden, Astro Entertainment, Peppermint Productions, Bill Adam Associates, Les Copaque, Purple Houz, Primeworks Studios and KRU Studios. MSC Malaysia’s aim is to generate worldwide interest in what Malaysia can offer in terms of home grown content, skills in digital production and post production and collaborative projects. Among the confirmed deals between Malaysia and international companies in MIPCOM 2009 include a co-production of TV series and distribution of animation feature film. The participation of MSC Malaysia in MIPCOM 2009 is also a part of an initiative under the MSC Malaysia Creative Multimedia Content Initiative (M-CMCI) driven by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) of Malaysia. Aimed at attracting entertainment content business, financing and co-production across all platforms, MIPCOM is one of the key markets for MSC Malaysia going global. The mission is jointly led by Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), Malaysian Industrial Development Authority, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) and Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
