Mumbai – Fox Star Studios, a pan-Asian joint venture between Twentieth Century Fox and STAR, announced a deal with Bollywood movie star, Shah Rukh Khan and director Karan Johar to finance and distribute My Name is Khan. The partnership on My Name Is Khan follows Fox Star Studios’ successful release of Slumdog Millionaire in India earlier this year. Fox Star Studios will market and distribute the film in India and leverage the strength of Twentieth Century Fox’s theatrical distribution network worldwide. Fox Searchlight Pictures will release the film in the US, and 20th Century Fox International will distribute across the rest of the world. Uday Shankar, CEO of STAR India commented, “STAR has had an enviable relationship with both KJ and SRK that goes back many years. Since STAR has now entered the business of movies, it is only natural for us to extend this relationship to movies. I am confident that MNK is the first in a long series of compelling movie entertainment that this partnership will deliver.” My Name is Khan examines how the life of an Indian Muslim (Shah Rukh Khan) living in San Francisco and suffering from Asperger’s Syndrome, is impacted after the 9/11 tragedy, when attitudes toward Muslims undergo a sea change.
