London – Murder mystery and bittersweet comedy top the list of new dramas BBC Worldwide is taking to MIPCOM 2008. Major BBC 1 drama Wallander is based on the award-winning and popular novels by Henning Mankell. The comedy, Mutual Friends explores the modern dilemma of choosing between family and responsibility or fun and reckless abandonment. Action adventure Survivors covers a group of lone survivors faced with the challenge to survive – after a strange disease wipes out the rest of the population. Two new comedy dramas are Sunshine and P.A’s; Whitechapel sees a barbaric killer copying the infamous Jack the Ripper murders down to the very last detail. Other offerings include: Margaret, looking at Margaret Thatcher’s final years in power; period dramas Tess of the D’Urbervilles and Little Dorrit; comedies Gavin & Stacey and Beautiful People. In the history genre, BBC Worldwide will present Moonshot; while American Future- A History by Simon Schama, coincides with the US elections of 2008. Life and South Pacific are two new natural history series, both shot in HD. Now in its second series, The Sarah Jane Adventures follows investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith on her alien-busting adventures for children. In addition, BBC Worldwide will showcase a range of other new titles at MIPCOM including two more factual series, Nature’s Great Events and World War II – Behind Closed Doors, and the comedy Massive.
