Kuala Lumpur/ Hong Kong – MEASAT’s Dr. Ali Ebadi, senior vice president, space systems development, and AsiaSat’s Per Hovstad, manager spectrum management, were among those presented with a 2008 Asia-Pacific Satellite Communications Council (APSCC) Special Award at the APSCC Awards Ceremony held in Jeju, Korea on September 23. The award, which was decided through a selection process based on the criterion set by the APSCC Awards Selection Committee, was presented to five individuals of the ‘Asia – Spectrum Defense Team’ in appreciation of their dedication and devotion to protect and maintain the satellite industry’s spectrum interest in Asia. Based on a series of criteria set by the APSCC Awards Selection Committee, the Asia Spectrum Defense Team Special Award was presented to the five representatives of the APSCC member companies who first united and then collectively put in the tremendous effort required to publicise the issue such that the integrity of the C-band spectrum used by satellite application could be maintained. As a result of this joint effort, it was concluded at the WRC-07 in November 2007 that the future mobile phone systems (IMT) were not widely accepted in C-band.
