Singapore – GlobeCast is managing contribution and delivery of sports events including the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament that concluded June 1, 2008, the Beijing Olympics in August 2008, and Singapore’s inaugural SingTel Singapore F1 Grand Prix night race on September 28, 2008. For IPL, GlobeCast was the content delivery partner delivering matches via its satellite and fibre network across Asia, Europe, Australia, South Africa and the US. The deal included coverage of 59 matches over 44 days that started from April 18, 2008, and saw GlobeCast provide all signal distribution from match venues, as well as delivery of the world feed for World Sport Group via the Asiasat 2 satellite and onward delivery via fibre link to London. GlobeCast also coordinated equipment, satellite capacity and staffing for worldwide distribution. For the Beijing Olympics, GlobeCast will provide SD and HD-ready satellite services and multiple uplinks for rights-holding broadcasters (RHBs) including the world feed for Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union’s (ABU) sport pool which comprises Asian terrestrial broadcasters and cable operators; multiple unilateral feeds for Hong Kong’s ATV and i-Cable, the Philippines’ Solar Entertainment, Brazil’s TV Globo and ESPN in the US. The company is also offering live standup positions, playout and other facilities in Beijing to non-RHBs and news agencies worldwide. The SingTel Singapore F1 will see GlobeCast provide HD-ready flyaways and mobile MCRs, as well as on-site production and distribution services for international broadcasters. The sporting events will be supported by GlobeCast’s regional headquarters in Singapore as well as liaison offices and technical operations centres in China, Korea and India, along with on-site project crews who oversee the management and broadcast of the events.
