Hong Kong – Hong Kong publishing firm the Oriental Press Group has launched a free online TV service, ontv, on its news and information Internet portal on.cc. The 24-hour ontv service is part of the Oriental Press Group’s efforts to extend its presence from traditional media to new and rich media. Available streaming on-demand over the Internet, ontv news provides political, economic and community updates from Hong Kong and the world, while entertainment and lifestyle channels offer programming on celebrities and contemporary lifestyles worldwide. ontv also provides clickable TV commercials which are linked to the advertised product, ‘video skins’ with rich thematic media, and mini games. The new service is expected to boost the popularity of on.cc which already registers 2million unique user sessions monthly. Li Hau Yu, controller of on.cc stated, “TV watching is no longer passive. Our audiences now truly have the choice to watch great TV programs anytime and anywhere they want. Our next goal is to become a universal service available not only over the Internet, but also on mobiles and smart handheld devices.”
