Cannes – NHK was presented with the Green World Award at MIPTV’s opening day April 7, 2008 in Cannes. The kudos recognizes the Japanese pubcaster’s commitment to production and broadcast of programs on environmental themes which are also available through its Eco Archives. NHK has also organized ecological campaigns including exhibitions, workshops, concerts and seminars in June each year since 2003 to draw public attention to environmental issues. NHK has run a special ‘NHK Eco 2008’ campaign since January, and has lined up various TV programmes. The Arctic Circle (2 X 49’) to air May 2008 in Japan, will see the first part discuss changes in the Arctic eco-system including warming, and the second highlights the exploitation of oil and natural gas reserves and its impact on the Arctic ecosystem. Save the Future is a 20-hour ‘green awareness’ tele-marathon of specially produced and regular programming on green themes. Round the World! The Great Global Eco Travelogue offers live broadcasts of two NHK presenters’ global eco-tours in each hemisphere across 30 countries. NHK Eco 2008 is a 10-minute weekly program introducing environmental topics for thought, featuring worldwide artists and showcases environmentally-friendly lifestyles.
