Hong Kong – Celestial Pictures has signed content deals with Kadokawa Entertainment and MGM Channel Central Europe to provide Shaw Brothers titles to multiple platforms in Japan, and pay TV in central Europe. In Japan, Shaw Brothers Library titles are being offered across video, pay-TV, free-to-air TV, VOD, and mobile platforms. Movies to be made available by Kadokawa Entertainment to audiences will range across the genres of horror, fantasy, action and martial arts with titles including The Treasure Hunters, Boxers Omen and Chinatown Kid. The deal also covers never-been-released films from martial arts directors including Chang Cheh, Kuei Chih-hung and Liu Chia-yung. Separately, in an exclusive deal with MGM Channel Central Europe, Shaw Brothers martial arts titles will air on pay TV in Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. The partnership marks the first time Shaw Brothers martial arts films are available on pay TV in the respective European territories. The agreement extends a three-year partnership that started with Shaw Brothers titles being aired on MGM Channel Germany’s Kung Fu Classics nights. Key martial arts titles to be available to MGM Channel Central Europe include Chang Cheh’s The Five Venoms, Hu King-chun’s Come Drink with Me, and Liu Chia-liang’s The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. Celestial’s Shaw Brothers Film Library consists of 760 films produced from the 1950s-1990s. Since 2002, Celestial Pictures has been re-mastering the films for worldwide distribution via cinemas, home video, television, and new media markets.
