Australia Network has launched in Malaysia on pay TV operator Astro to offer news and current affairs, documentaries, entertainment shows, sports and children’s programs as well as English language learning programmes. Bruce Dover, chief executive, Australia Network said, “Australia Network represents an enormous opportunity to establish a credible, authoritative Australian voice in the region as well as bring the very best of Australian television to audiences living and working in the most dynamic economies of the world today.” Catering to viewers in Asia, the Pacific and the India subcontinent, Australia Network offers a range of Australian-made content including dramas McLeod’s Daughters, All Saints, and Home and Away; sports show Super 14s Rugby; English learning programme Study English; and pre-school series Bananas in Pyjamas. A highlight of Australia Network is its flagship news program NewsHour with Jim Middleton, which focuses on events of the day, and offers panel discussions on issues and perspectives of Australian and Asia Pacific regions to offer ‘a different view’ from UK and US-centric news networks.
